How practicing Gratitude and Appreciation Leads to more Abundance, Happiness, and Purpose in life.
The Power of Gratitude and Appreciation
“Have you ever noticed how practicing daily gratitude invites more abundance, happiness, and purpose into your life?”
Science and spiritual wisdom both agree, practicing gratitude and appreciation can significantly improve our happiness, well-being, and even success in life. But what if gratitude could do even more? What if it could shape your life’s purpose?”
In September last year, I was up for a week in the Noosa region for one of my best mate’s birthday. I remember we were out in Hastings Street, had a beautiful banquet of food at ‘Bang Bang’ and went to a local Sofitel Bar to listen to some Acoustic Music, I was truly grateful for the experience.
The birthday girl turned to me and said, “Kerrie” do you want to house-sit and look after our dog for us when we go on holiday early next year? I’m not sure if my head could have turned any quicker, and I said to her, “Well you caught me at a weak moment, of course I will” mind you if you saw where they lived you wouldn’t have hesitated either, ‘Selling Sunsets’ has nothing on their place, it is mesmorising and the energy of the area feels so good.
How Gratitude Attracts More Abundance
I’m sure you can tell where I’m taking this blog post – toward the incredible power of gratitude practice and an abundant life.
I’ve just spent nearly five weeks house-sitting just north of Noosa and have had the best five weeks a girl could have. I met and made friends with some of the nicest people, every where you went, local shops all smiles.
If you follow me on social media, you may have seen some of my stories (as they weren’t stories for an instagram main grid); given I had many visits from the young tree frogs (Houdini and Johnny) who decided they wanted to get acquainted by sitting in the toilet bowl, or cane toads sitting out under the pergola watching TV with me.
Dr Dolittle at Her Finest
Along with the gorgeous woman who lived next door, we managed sightings of tree frogs, cane toads, lizards, lady bugs, kookaburras laughing, two big beautiful wedge tail eagles that soared above and in the valley nearly every day. One decided to fly down low right past the front car windscreen one afternoon as I was driving into Cooroy.
A white owl in the middle of the road one night, a kangaroo another night standing on the side waiting to pass, a baby robin, butterflies in their masses, a beautiful light blue butterfly at a cafe, a huge spider and a baby python, not to mention the maggies who came when it was dinner time. So, as you can imagine, it was highly eventful, I was starting to feel like Dr Dolittle.
Sometimes I woke at 4.00 am for different events, I was able to watch the beautiful sunrise come up, and savoured every single moment of the beauty, the view and the amazing energy the land held. I even got to stand outside one morning, early hours with their beautiful dog at 12.30 am and watch an amazing lightning show when a storm was passing through.
Gratitude and Appreciation: A Path to Purposeful Living
A consistent gratitude practice is more than just acknowledging the good in our lives, it’s a powerful tool for personal transformation, mindfulness, and self-discovery.
However, there’s another layer beyond gratitude: appreciation. While gratitude focuses on recognising what we have, appreciation allows us to fully value and understand its significance in our lives.
As a Holistic Life Purpose Coach and Hand Analyst, I help people uncover their soul’s purpose, lessons and strengths through their hands, guiding them toward a fulfilling, purpose-driven life. And one of the most transformative tools I encourage is the practice of journaling, gratitude and appreciation.
The Transformational Power of Gratitude and Appreciation
Both gratitude and appreciation serve as powerful forces that help us navigate life with more intention and fulfilment. Studies show that gratitude can reduce stress, increase resilience, and boost overall happiness. But when we take it further, when we appreciate the journey that brought us here, the lessons, the struggles, and the triumphs, we open ourselves to a deeper connection with life.
Think about it:
Gratitude might mean, “I’m grateful for my job,” but appreciation takes it a step further: “I deeply appreciate the skills I’ve gained, the people I’ve met, and how this job has shaped me.” This subtle shift enhances our ability to live with greater purpose and meaning.
How to Enhance Gratitude and Appreciation
Journaling is a powerful way to bring gratitude and appreciation into your daily life for self-discovery, mindfulness, and holistic well-being. By keeping a gratitude journal, you can track your progress, shift your mindset, and embrace more joy in everyday living.
Here are some prompts to help you deepen your practice:
1 – Daily Gratitude List
Write down three things you are grateful for today and why they matter to you.
2 – Strength Reflection
List five personal strengths and reflect on how they have helped shape your journey.
3 – A Moment of Joy
Recall a recent experience that brought you joy and describe it in detail. What about it do you truly appreciate?
4 – Acts of Kindness
Reflect on a time someone showed you kindness. How did it impact you, and how did you express appreciation for it?
5 – Future Gratitude
Imagine a goal or dream you hope to achieve. Write about it as if it has already happened, expressing gratitude and appreciation for the journey it took to get there.
Bringing Gratitude into Your Purposeful Path
In my work as a Life Purpose Coach, I often see how gratitude can unlock clarity. When clients practice gratitude, they start to see patterns, what brings them joy, where they feel most fulfilled, and how their challenges have been meaningful. Hand analysis reveals not only our life purpose but also the life lessons we’re meant to learn, and gratitude allows us to appreciate those lessons rather than resist them.
If you’re feeling lost, unfulfilled, or uncertain about your next step, start with gratitude. Recognise where you are, appreciate the lessons you’ve already learned, and trust that each moment is guiding you toward your greater purpose.
Life is to Be Enjoyed
We managed a last Hoorah at ‘Miss MoneyPenny’s’ in Hastings Street, Noosa who had an “End of Summer Party” with Raw Ordio (Dj set), Johnny Sonic (Potbellez) and Trent Rackus (Ministry of Sound) such great fun. I think we were all in awe of a beautiful older couple who were on the dance floor dancing to some house beats, showing us all how life is to be enjoyed at any age.
The Magnitude of Gratitude and Appreciation during my house and dog sitting trip was off the charts, from the people, the beaches, the waves, the bushland, the rivers, the music, the vibe, I felt completely at home. I’m a cold fish too, so with the humidity and what they called a ‘Sunshine Coast Heat Wave’ I was in my element.
A Final Thought to Carry with You
As we move through life, we’ve been taught to give thanks and we can also appreciate the journey that led us to these moments. Let gratitude open our hearts, and let appreciation deepen our connection to life and each other.
I invite you to begin a daily gratitude practice today and embrace a life of abundance, self-discovery and purpose. Try daily journaling and use one or all of the journaling prompts above and see how the Magnitude of Gratitude transforms your life and perspective.
Give me a new experience any day, I’ve always said I enjoy the little things in life, those moments of reflection that bring us so much joy. If you do find you can often come from a negative mind, learn to ‘flip it’ to the positive, how can you be grateful in this scenario, what gifts or lessons did you learn, how would you handle the situation better next time?
I could go on forever about the healing, the work I did and the healing and guidance I received in this blog post. However I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge that we have some very special people in this world who have so much to share to help others, I hope you experience and appreciate the same beautiful people in your life.
Aesop said “Gratitude turns what we have into enough” I feel that practicing Gratitude and appreciation turns what we have into even more abundance in our lives, because we learn to see it everywhere.
And you know my motto in life, go out there and Do What Your Love and Live Your Best, Abundant Life!
