Where to Begin
I go every year to get my skin checked by a specialist. If you’re interested and live in the Goulburn Valley area, I go to GV Skin & Specialist Centre, Shepparton.
A few from my old job went regularly, and I thought, yeah, I’ve been a sun-kissed baby my whole life. I love swimming, outdoors, and beaches as much as the next person, and in my younger years, I wasn’t one to use sunblock if it was even around when I was young.
Anyway, the Doctor rang to give me my results, and he left a message to say that my skin check came up all clear, no physical signs of skin cancer – YAY!
I went to bed thinking, “That’s great, one less thing to worry about for another year.” However, my guide advised me otherwise.
“Yes, Kerrie, you ‘Don’t’ have skin cancer’, BUT you do have tiny microplastic shards that have embedded in your stomach area. It is red, raw and inflamed, and you want to keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn’t metastasise.”
You can imagine I went from feeling relieved to this feeling of ‘WTF’ – I mean, for starters, it’s internal; how do you keep an eye on it, like most diseases? What is the treatment for Microplastics? And what does it mean if something ‘metastasises?’ Have fun googling it; that rabbit hole is endless. I’ll save you some time and cut to the chase:
Basically, apart from inflammation, it could turn into disease or cancer and then spread from one part of the body to another, into other organs, our bloodstream, bodily tissues, you name it.
Then Google Microplastics
WOW, that’s a whole new ball game. Trust me, I’m not naive. I know microplastics exist. I see the world has a huge problem when it comes to plastic, and most of us have our heads in the sand, thinking it’s just the poor sea turtles we need to worry about and not so much the human race.
Let me ask you a question and stop for a second to think about the answer:
‘WHAT IF’ the increase in cancer in the world today is because of microplastics? I mean, they are in almost everything and everywhere you look, including what you breathe in, eat, drink, and touch. Apparently, the average person ingests a credit card’s worth of plastic every week, equivalent to 5g of plastic – it’s fricken crazy.
Where Did I Come From?
If you do a little research, you will see studies of how microplastics can even get into the brain and other organs, such as how they did a study on sperm and found microplastics were present in every single one. That’s mind-blowing shit right there.
It puts a whole new spin on ‘Mum, Where do I come from’? – ‘I Come from Microplastic Sperm’ pun intended, my wordplay is intentional. Even the heavy stuff is good to keep light-hearted sometimes, as this topic runs deep, and we’re going to hear more and more about it in time to come as science and the world catches up to its enormity.
I could go down into the deep abyss in my mindset, but I’ve chosen to speak up about it and spread awareness. When I had that thought for a moment, why is this happening to me? My mindset shifted straight away, to – you can help bring some awareness to this for those who want to listen and take notice.
Look around in your environment right now!
How much is plastic? And how much food do you buy that’s in plastic, what are you drinking out of, and what do you heat your food in? It’s just the tip of the iceberg; if there was ever a time to grow your food, it’s now. Imagine in years to come when you press that button on the devices on the bench, and it throws out your plastic dinner, yummy yummy in my tummy.
It’s in food, packaging, half of our pantry, including cans lined with plastic, disposable food products, synthetic clothing, personal care, air pollution, and our water—it’s probably easier to name what it isn’t in. Which is why I refer to it as Microplastic Mayhem. But let’s make it real and achievable and limit our exposure, something I probably hadn’t done the best job of, although I had always bought BPA-free plastic products.
That's it Everything is Getting Chucked Out
For those who know me reading this blog, you’ll know that I’m a radical transformer. By the time the week was out, I had thrown out all my plastic containers in my kitchen, even my favourite microwave Tupperware cooking container. I only cook in glass, ceramic, or stainless steel now and am also going old school to mainly cook back on the stove, which I should have done many years ago in hindsight.
All the old plastic bottles are in the recycle bin. I had a two-litre plastic drink bottle that I used to refill. It was meant to be BPA-free, so maybe that was the culprit, or maybe it was the old Tupperware microwave container I cooked in. I stopped using cling wrap many years ago, and I don’t use freezer bags, but it could have been caused by any number of things.
I had even just thrown out old pans I was cooking with at Christmas. But I decided if it’s not glass, ceramic, or stainless steel, it ain’t happening, not on my watch anymore. If we find out stainless causes something else in years to come, I will deal with that, too.
Good Quality Alkaline Water Filter
When you Google, you’ll even find there are microplastics in our water. The water from the tap tastes pretty bad anyway with all the extra chemicals; it was worse when I lived up the other end of town. I even pour water into a bucket before I water my plants with it, just to get some of the chlorine and ammonia to dissipate.
So, I went on a tangent to find a good benchtop water filter. I had an old water filter made of BPA free plastic; it also went in the recycle bin. I purchased a ceramic water filter that can go directly onto the kitchen tap from Bunnings.
I also researched an excellent benchtop water filter; there are quite a few out there, but I was impressed by Earths Water Alkaline Water Filters. The 9L glass one in the picture here is the one I purchased if you’re interested.
You may think that’s a lot of money for a water filter – you’d spend more on a long weekend away, and what’s the price of your and your family’s health?
Since purchasing it, we run out of water all the time, so I’m filling it up every morning, which is great as it means we’re drinking more of it.
It also has a fast stainless tap, so you’re not waiting for it to fill up on your way out the door. Especially when my kids are often filling up their large Yeti drink bottles.
Tala, our husky, even gets filtered water now; I figure if it’s good enough for us, it’s good enough for her, and she must love the taste of it as she is drinking more water now. You may think that’s ridiculous, but she’s not in a natural habitat or drinking fresh Chilean water.
In one week, I had completely transformed our kitchen, my mindset and what was going to be acceptable going forward for my health and that of my family when it comes to our plastic exposure.
Quick Question of the Doctor
I was about to jump on a plane, and my mum messaged me that she was going to the doctor’s that day. I thought I’d get her to ask while she was there if there were any tests for microplastics, a body scan, or something to locate where they are and how to treat them.
She did ask, and there isn’t any body scan test that she was aware of, although the Doctor did say there should be, as we would all have microplastics inside us. I will get some blood tests done. At least we can check for inflammation, etc., and compare results now and in the future. New tests are always coming out; you’ll find a few new studies if you research.
Reiki & Crystal Healing
Before I had done a lot of research on microplastics and worked out a plan of attack, I started to feel the inflammation quite severely. My stomach felt pressurised. It wasn’t painful as such, but it was definitely not pleasant or comfortable at all.
By the time I went to bed, my tummy had swollen like I was 4-6 months pregnant, which was unusual for me. I went to bed, hoping it would settle by the morning. I woke at around 2 am and still felt the same and swollen to the max, and I knew I had to do something to relieve myself of the pressure.
I got up, went to the toilet, grabbed my crystals and phone to play shamanic drumming, and placed quite a few crystals over me as I lay down. I called in my healing guides and Reiki energy to help with my healing and to help relieve my body of this toxic gas, as I knew that’s what it was: that had built up inside, leaching out into my body from the microplastics, and I needed it to escape.
Many years ago, when I was doing crystal healing on myself, I felt all these sensations and vibrations within the cells of my body. When I asked what was happening, I was advised that it was ‘cell regeneration’ from the crystals, working within my own body’s natural healing abilities.’
I’ve been doing Reiki & Crystal Healing for years now and have experienced the benefits first-hand. I could feel when my healing guides came in; I knew they had arrived to help. Their presence was strong, and I felt safe knowing they were there to help me. I closed my eyes and felt the pressure releasing over time (the nicest way I can put it, lol). I finally fell back to sleep, still covered in my crystals, listening to my shamanic drumming. When I woke in the morning, my tummy was back to normal, and my stomach felt good again.
